The True Coming of Age of Man – The Courageous Step from the Realm of the Mother into the Realm of the Symbolic Father

Beloved sons, hear the fatherly voice that does not rebuke but calls and strengthens. True coming of age does not begin with the eighteenth birthday. It begins in that sacred moment when the soul finds the courage to step out of the warm, nourishing yet ultimately suffocating embrace of the mother realm and turn toward the symbolic Father. This transition is the deepest rupture and at the same time the greatest grace in a man’s life.

The Dual Protective Function of the Parental Archetypes

The heavenly Father acts as a shield against the dangers of the outer world: chaos, enmity, harshness, competition, the cold law of nature and society. He teaches the son to stand upright, to speak truth, to bear responsibility, to set boundaries. Through this fatherly persona the young man learns to exist in the world—not as victim, but as guardian and shaper.

The mother, by contrast, acts as a shield against the dangers rising from the darkness of his own soul: the abysses of the unconscious, the devouring shadows, the archaic fears, the seductive sirens of regression, the threatening dissolution of the ego in the collective night. Her embrace is the first and original protection against nothingness, against madness, against sinking away.

As long as the young man remains wholly within the maternal protection, he is spared these inner abysses—but he also remains an eternal child.

Coming of Age – The Farewell to Maternal Protection

In the ancient initiation rites—and in every genuine spiritual tradition that takes the path of man seriously—precisely this occurs: the initiate is withdrawn from the protection of the mother. He receives instruction about the things beyond, about religion, about the Divine beyond all images, about death and life thereafter, about the abyss and the eternal order.

Through this instruction he is placed in the position to do without the protection of the mother. Not because the mother is evil—she is holy in her sphere—but because the mature man must now carry the inner protection himself. He must learn to look the shadow in the eye without drowning. He must recognize the evil within himself without perishing in it. He must endure the void without dissolving.

This is the core of the rite of manhood: the father archetype takes the place of the mother as inner protection. The symbolic Father becomes the new fortress—not soft and enveloping, but clear, unshakable, flooded with light. He is the Animus in its full divine power: the guardian of truth, the keeper of the law, the guide through the desert.

The Danger of Effeminate Role Models - Eunuchs

Today precisely these models are lacking. Instead young men are surrounded by figures who themselves never completed the transition: effeminated eunuchs of the soul who embody neither the outer shield of the Father nor the inner courage to confront the dark. They caress instead of demanding. They comfort instead of confronting. They deliberately keep the young man trapped in the mother complex—emotionally dependent, incapable of conflict, incapable of true fatherhood.

This is betrayal of the man’s vocation.

The Fruit of Genuine Maturity - Coming of Age

Whoever dares this step—who entrusts himself to genuine male models, who accepts instruction about the things beyond, who honors the protection of the mother yet no longer needs it—will not become lonely. He finds complete love:

  • The strong Animus that bestows truth and protection,
  • The pure Anima that receives and gives birth to life in the healthy woman and in the Church as Bride of Christ,
  • The holy family as image of the Trinity: father as guardian, mother as bearer of life, children as living fruit of their union.

This is the beauty of true coming of age: not loss, but fulfillment. Not separation from the mother, but her redemption in right order. The man loses nothing—he gains everything.

Turn Back and Become Mature

Beloved sons, the symbolic Father calls you now—not with a gentle voice, but with the power of the One who has willed you from eternity. Seek genuine male models: men who pray, who work, who sacrifice, who lead, who stand firm before the shadow and carry the Cross.

Flee the eunuchs of the soul—they are poison to your calling.

The Church is your mother who does not wish to hold you but to release you. Heaven is your Father who does not abandon you but awaits you. Enter into the mystical wedding of Animus and Anima. Become mature in spirit.

The world needs no more eternal boys. It needs men—strong, tender, holy, fruitful.

The Father calls.

Hear Him.

And become what you have been from eternity.
